The Beginnings of Spyderco
Sal and Gail Glesser launched Spyderco in 1976 as a manufacturing company. In 1978, they established their headquarters in Golden, Colorado, and focused their efforts on selling their first product, the Tri-Angle SharpmakerTM, which was largely marketed at trade events and fairs all throughout the country at the time.
Spyderco brought their first folding knife, the C01 Worker, to the market in 1981. With the knife, the round hole in the blade for a one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, as well as the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance, were all introduced for the first time.
That combination of characteristics completely transformed the knife industry and literally established the shape of the contemporary folding knife.

Spyderco Military 2 G-10 Black

When someone asked Spyderco’s owner Sal Glesser, “If your son were going into the military what folding knife would you send him with?” he came up with the Military Model.
It has become a mainstay in the company’s Save and Serve line up ever since. The knife had to, without a doubt, match the specifications of a high-performance, lightweight folder that would be subjected to a lot of abuse. When you consider that steel is the soul of a knife, CPM S30V felt like an obvious choice for the blade, especially considering its reputation for long-term edge retention and corrosion resistance. The ‘Millie’ has a modified clip-point blade that has been laser cut with a 14 mm Spyderco Round Hole to allow for quick deployment and use with gloves, making it ideal for outdoor use.

The texturing above the hole helps to keep the thumb in contact with the blade’s spine when cutting, allowing for assured control over the sharpened edge during cutting. The handle scales are made of G-10, and the lock’s liner is nested directly into the scale, increasing lock strength without the use of bulky liners. The use of spacers between the scales creates a gap that runs the entire length of the handle, allowing the interior workings to be inspected and cleaned. During sawing, or when making tough or forceful cuts, the handle widens slightly at the front end, providing a finger choil, as well as at the butt-end, which prevents the knife from slipping forward or backward in the hand. A black metal clip with a curved design is set up for right-hand tip-down carry.
Spyderco Para 3 Signature Folding Knife

The Para 3 folding knife from Spyderco incorporates all the time-tested features and performance of the company’s renowned Para Military 2 in a smaller, more convenient package for everyday use.
The Para 3 is now available with a durable Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) blade coating, which is ideal for tactical end users who are worried about light discipline or who simply prefer the look of a black blade. This low-profile coating is permanently bonded to the premium CPM S45VN stainless steel blade, which has a full-flat grind, a PlainEdge cutting edge, and a fully accessible Trademark Round HoleTM for swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening.
The Trademark Round HoleTM is also fully accessible for one-handed opening. In the handle, a high-strength Compression Lock mechanism is nested within the textured black G-10 scales, which provide support for the blade. The open-backed handle construction, which is easy to clean, helps to minimize the weight of the knife. It is providing a stable platform for a four-position hourglass clip, which allows for tip-up or tip-down carry on the left or right side of the knife.
The clip, as well as all the assembly screws, are darkened with non-reflective coatings, just like the blade.
If you like this knife, you might like the Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight as well.
Spyderco Native Chief Folding Knife

The Spyderco Native Chief is a highly refined and time-tested version of the legendary Native model, which has been around for decades. It lengthens it by almost one-third, resulting in a longer, even more, capable cutting tool that is still remarkably small and pocket-friendly in design. With a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole and an index-finger choil, its full-flat-ground CPM S30V stainless steel blade allows for one-handed ambidextrous opening. In addition to textured G-10 scales, a stainless steel backspacer, and an ultra-refined, precision-machined back lock mechanism, the blade is supported by a linerless handle that contains a stainless steel backspacer.
There are four sets of threaded inserts in the scales that allow the polished hourglass pocket clip to be configured to your needs. It is possible to configure the knife to tip-up or tip-down carry on either side of the body. A generously sized lanyard hole accepts fobs and lanyards without difficulty.
Spyderco Lil’ Native Signature Folding Knife

For decades, the Spyderco Native has been a pillar of the company’s American-made product range, and it remains so today. All of the highly refined performance characteristics of this very popular design have now been condensed into a tiny gentlemen’s folder with a 2.5-inch blade, making it ideal for everyday carry. In addition to a conspicuous index-finger choil, the blade is made entirely of full-flat-ground CPM S30V stainless steel, which flows perfectly into the curves of the textured G-10 handle scales.
The result is a small, ergonomic package that yet allows for a full four-finger grip and good control while remaining compact and ergonomic. This version of the Lil’ Native goes a step further by including a high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, sometimes known as a Back Lock. The knife features a low-profile deep-pocket wire clip that can be used for tip-up carry on either the left or right side. I love this Spyderco pocket knife.
Spyderco Native 5 Folding Knife

Spyderco’s rare and highly collectible 40th Anniversary Knife served as inspiration for the Native 5 Fluted Carbon Fiber. It combines all the features and benefits of the iconic Native 5 platform with an ultra-high-performance CPM S90V stainless steel blade and stunning fluted carbon fiber handle scales.
As a result, you will have a truly exceptional everyday carry knife with significant street cred.
In addition to having a gorgeous sunburst design, the linerless scales of this knife also include a delicate non-slip texture that is precisely machined from solid carbon fiber. These knives are outfitted with four sets of threaded stainless steel inserts that enable for the attachment of a four-position pocket clip that accommodates a wide range of carry preferences. The adaptable clip, when combined with the knife’s high-strength back lock mechanism and the blade’s fully accessible Trademark Round HoleTM, makes all aspects of the knife’s carry and one-handed use completely ambidextrous.
This knife’s blade has been made from high-quality CPM S90V stainless steel, thus it is not to be outdone. It is enriched with a high vanadium content in order to stimulate the production of hard vanadium carbides rather than the formation of chromium carbides in this advanced particle metallurgy steel. In turn, this increases the steel’s wear resistance and edge retention, allowing more free chromium to be available to provide improved corrosion resistance to the steel. Out of all Spyderco pocket knives, this is my number 2 after the Lil’ Native!
Spydergo Manix 2 XL G-10 Black

It is designed for tactical operations when light discipline is required, and it is completely black. It has a robust Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) blade coating as well as blackened liners, clip, and grip hardware to match the rest of the knife.
In addition, these coatings provide a low-profile, non-reflective finish to the Manix 2 XL, which is designed to combine the strength and convenience of Spyderco’s proprietary Ball Bearing Lock with the tremendous cutting capability of the original Manix in a compact, lightweight package.
Because it is flat ground from quality CPM S30V stainless steel, its 3.86-inch blade is somewhat longer and 25 percent thinner than Manix’s 3.86-inch blade. These minor adjustments improve its cutting performance by minimizing drag, while also assisting in the reduction of the knife’s weight. Better jimping on the thumb ramp and forefinger choil improve handling, and a huge 14 mm Trademark Spyderco Hole makes one-handed deployment a joy, even when wearing gloves. The handle of the Manix 2 XL is made of 420J2 stainless steel liners that are covered with textured black G-10 scales to provide a secure grip.
A firm grip is provided by strategically placed jimping on the edges of the liners, and the open-backed construction type makes cleaning and maintenance a breeze. A reversible hourglass clip enables tip-up carry from either the left or right side, and a lined lanyard hole allows for the attachment of key fobs and lanyards. The Ball Bearing Lock mechanism, which is invented by Spyderco and consists of a steel ball bearing housed in a robust textured polymer “cage,” holds everything together and keeps it that way. A steel plunger drives the ball bearing forward when the blade is opened, wedged between a ramp on the blade and a steel “anvil” in the back spacer of the handle.
Grasping the caged ball bearing at the back of the blade unlocks the lock, allowing the blade to close smoothly while keeping your fingers safely away from the razor-sharp edge.
It is incredibly strong, smooth, and simple to use, and it is also totally ambidextrous in operation.
Spyderco Shaman Signature Folding Knife

The Shaman, which takes its design cues from our classic Native folding knife, offers the same advanced ergonomics and proven design dynamics in a bigger, even more, capable style. The CPM S30V stainless steel blade, with a full-flat grind for exceptional edge geometry and an acute, utilitarian point, is the heart of this amazing design. It is the most important component of this design.
With a fully accessible Trademark Round HoleTM, the Spyderco lineage is boldly announced, and the knife opens quickly and reliably with either hand, thanks to the Trademark Round HoleTM.
Its stonewash-finished blade is contained in an extraordinarily elegant and ergonomic handle constructed of nested skeletonized stainless steel liners and contoured matte-finished G-10 scales with a matte-finished surface. 3This durable structure serves as the foundation for the knife’s high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which firmly locks the blade open while allowing for safe, one-handed closing with only one hand.

A stonewashed four-position pocket clip allows for left or right-side carry, as well as tip-up or tip-down access, to provide convenient carry and rapid access.
In either a PlainEdgeTM or a fully serrated SpyderEdgeTM blade configuration, the Shaman provides tremendous cutting magic in a stylish and user-friendly package.
