Southern Grind – The Beginning
Southern Grind was founded by country music star Zac Brown, who is also a knife enthusiast. Throughout the process, he personally monitored the design and production of each and every item. His metal company in Peachtree City, Georgia, specializes in the production of blades and metal works that are both extremely useful and dependable under extreme conditions. No knife left Southern Grind’s workshop without meeting the exacting criteria set by the company’s founder and president.
Southern Grind – A New Beginning
In April 2021 Zac announced that he has handed over the firm, as well as future production, to Southern GRIND’s longstanding friend and manufacturing mentor, Diamondback Firearms.
From the website: “The Grind Continues For more than a decade you have depended on Zac Brown’s Southern GRIND Knife Co. to consistently develop and deliver dependable and innovative knife designs. We are excited to announce that this legacy will continue under Diamondback Knife Works! Although the physical equipment has moved from Georgia to the Space Coast of Florida, the unbeatable quality and attention to detail that sets GRIND knives apart will continue to represent Zac’s vision. Rest assured that any GRIND relationships are still thriving, all warranties still exist, any questions about previous or future conversations are always welcomed.”
What makes the Southern Grind Knife Special
Initially, a Southern Grind folding knife may appear to be a little awkward to hold. However, this is not the case. You will notice, however, that it fits perfectly in your hand and in your pocket the moment you take it out of the package. When it comes to the pocket, the clip is short and wide since, according to their research, the length of the pocket clip is not relevant. The width is. The knife’s thumb studs have been jimped to provide you with more traction when you are opening it. Some of their models are equipped with the Emerson Wave function, which allows for quick and straightforward deployment.
Depending on whatever model you purchase, a monkey or penguin is etched into the pivot shaft. When it comes to creating a high-quality, long-lasting knife, it is simple things like this that make all the difference. These guys were on the money. Take a look at the Pocket Knives made in the USA!

The blade is shaped with a sloping drop point with a prominent thumb ramp and a small wedge. This is a traditional no-frills blade form that offers a little bit of everything in one package. In addition to a fine tip that is great for piercing cuts, there is a little belly, but also plenty of edge for drawing cuts.
The grind is fine, the knife slices cleanly, and the edge has been applied with attention to precision. This is a capable blade that is well-suited for a variety of everyday chores. The Spider Monkey’s handle scales are made of carbon fiber, with titanium liners beneath them. The carbon fiber is curved, and it has a ribbed texture that starts at the pommel and fades into smooth carbon fiber about halfway into the handle. The handle is held together by special fasteners and columns that were created specifically for it. Each component is properly aligned with the rest of the system.
